Fowey is to be found nestling on the west bank at the mouth of the River Fowey. You should not be misled by this small centre being designated a Town. With a permanent residential population of around 2,250 it scarcely merits such a title. Nonetheless, the town has been a popular holiday destination for many decades as well as attracting a large contingent from the yachting fraternity.
On the east bank of the River Fowey are the villages of Polruan and Bodinnick. There is a passenger ferry from Polruan but the Bodinnick crossing is served by a vehicular ferry giving access from East Cornwall.
Most visitors travelling to Fowey arrive by car, either by the A3082 which comes from St Austell or the B3269 coming from either Bodmin or Lostwithiel.
Additionally the town is served by only one scheduled bus route (No 25) which is a typically circuitous country service but it does give access to the railway stations at Par and St Austell.
St Austell and Truro railway stations both offer hire car pick-ups by prior arrangement. They are on the main line from London Paddington but the network can give convenient connections to many parts of the country.
Visitors coming from further afield may like to consider flying. Exeter has a small airport and Newquay has an even smaller one. Both offer hire car pick-ups.
