Fowey is a delightfully picturesque and unspoilt small town and port that nestles in a valley on the west bank of the River Fowey. This area is ideal for those who wish to visit all parts of Cornwall while staying in a quiet and relaxing environment. It offers particularly good walking country and is home of many of the country’s best gardens.

Beautiful unspoilt countryside criss-crossed with delightful walks and steeped in history, the farm at Penventinue (pronounced ‘Penn-ertinny’), was recorded in the Domesday book. Within easy walking distance of the town yet set in distinctly open countryside it’s truly the best of both town and country. Some of our guests take advantage of our countryside setting to bring boats which are easily launched from nearby Caffa Mill, and take advantage of our trailer storage space (please bear in mind that the farm is at the end of a country lane and larger boats/trailers may struggle to navigate the winding turns).
There is a very pleasant walk from the farm to the outskirts of Golant, across a valley with a small stream and then down the steep hill into the village, to the famous Fisherman’s Arms and another excellent launching point (or destination) for river exploration.
The town of Fowey is unique with it’s compact Fore street packed with individual shops, including excellent local Butcher and Deli Kittows and Fowey Fish, old fashioned pubs, coffee shops and a selection of excellent restaurants. Local seafood and farm produce are always cooked to best effect in convivial surroundings whether you want a young, hip joint or a more relaxed, classical vibe. Good value fine dining and easy going ‘real food’ fare sit cheek by jowl in the jigsaw of the old heart of the town, where you can choose from a dozen establishments within a hundred yards.

Venturing slightly further afield (15 minutes drive) we find the amazing Eden Project which is in a constant state of flux – locals will happily visit every few weeks to see what new project is taking shape in these fertile creative grounds that fuse an entire ethos of green eco living and art, theatre, music, dance and storytelling from around the globe – and don’t forget it’s a horticultural wonder! For those interested in the fascinating history of the region there are a range of attractions from beautifully preserved country estates like Lanhydrock (about 15 minutes drive) or St. Catherine’s Castle in Fowey, as well as the stunning Church and Town Hall complete with fascinating Museum.
For the more active visitor the Fowey Maritime Centre offers a host of sailing and powerboating courses and the nearby north coast (40 minutes) provides excellent surfing grounds – complete with surf schools and hire!
Whether you seek relaxation, fine foods and drink, a family escape, romantic break or adventure holiday it’s all within easy reach of your base and the farm.
